The summer exodus at the Camp Nou is in full effect as Barcelona announced that they had sent Francisco Trincão out on loan.

More from Everything Barca

The Portuguese forward has joined English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers on a one-year loan.

Barcelona make another dent in the wage bill with Trincão loan

The deal sees Trincão join for the 2021-2022 season with the plan being that the player gets more first team football — something he was unlikely to get under manager Ronald Koeman.

Trincão featured in in 43 games last season — mostly as a substitute — and scored three goals to go along with two assists.

With the influx of attacking players such as Sergio Agüero and Memphis Depay, his playing time was bound to decrease next season and a move somewhere else is probably the right move for the 21-year-old.

The agreement does not include a mandatory option to buy. However, Wolves do have the option to make the deal permanent and would have to pay a €30 million transfer fee.

In addition to the non-mandatory option to buy, according to Sport, Wolves will also pay the player’s wages next season meaning the Catalans are afforded some relief in their attempts to bring the wage bill down.

The big beneficiary of his departure is Alex Collado. The Barça B winger impressed last season and has been promoted to the first team. Whatever minutes Trincão was going to get theoretically are going to go to him with the goal of convincing Koeman.

He may get those minutes early in the season given the long-term injury to Ousmane Dembélé and the uncertainty surrounding Ansu Fati in terms of how he’s going to recuperate with his own long-term injury.

Trincão becomes the third player to exit the club after Nice exercised their option on Jean-Clair Todibo and Konrad de la Fuente was sold to Marseille.
