Won Copa America & Copa del Rey.

Well, Messi has finally done it, he has finally managed to win an international trophy at the fifth time of asking, and by god did he have the tournament of his life. A month back, it was pretty sure that Messi would not win the Ballon d’Or, as although he had an amazing season, Barcelona only managed to win the Copa del Rey.

However, after an amazing Copa America tournament, it is hard to see anyone but the Argentine pick up his seventh award. The 34-year-old captained his team to victory and gave Argentina their first major trophy since 1993. After scoring four goals and providing five assists in the tournament, Messi was deservedly awarded the Golden Boot award as well as the Best Player award for the tournament. This victory with Argentina along with his 38 goals and 14 assists in the league last season has propelled him into the first position on this list. As it stands, Messi is set to win his seventh Ballon d’Or award.
