Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has recently visited the Nou Camp as he always does every year. Xavi was also asked to address the whole Lionel Messi situation and his current contract according to Mundo Deportivo.

More from Everything Barca

Lionel Messi is officially a free agent now and he has been one for the last week. Currently, the player is in South America enjoying his Copa America victory. The Argentina captain and his men beat rivals Brazil in the finals last Sunday to record a historic victory. With the competition now over, all focus is on Messi and his contract situation with Barca.

While president Joan Laporta is confident and Messi himself wants to renew, the Spanish giants are unable to register Lionel Messi on a new deal because of La Liga’s new wage system.

The team already has too many players whose combined wages have already exceeded the limit. So, to land Leo on a new deal they will need to let go of multiple players in order to bring the wage amounts down. They are also unable to register new signings like Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Eric Garcia.

Xavi Hernandez gives his opinion on the renewal of Lionel Messi

"“They are market circumstances, we have to wait, I imagine he is talking to the club and the president. I wish Leo the best, as a friend of his and as a culé, I wish him to continue at Barça, I hope it can be announced as soon as possible. If I had to bet, I would say that he will continue at the club, although football has seen a lot of things, but I would say that he will continue. Leo needs Barça and Barça needs Leo. He is happy in Barcelona, he has been around his whole life. I would bet he renewed ”Source Mundo Deportivo"

Xavi Hernandez has stated that he is sure that Messi has been speaking to the president and the club to try and work out a new deal. According to the legendary number 6, a new deal for the player at the Nou Camp is inevitable and he thinks that Messi will eventually sign. However, La Liga president Javier Tebas has recently tweeted about how Barcelona cannot register Lionel Messi this summer due to the extreme financial conditions at the club.

While it might be a difficult process, it does not look like the magician is going to move to a different club anytime soon. The arrival of Sergio Aguero has also reportedly played a massive part in Messi staying, and the Copa America victory will only add to the positive environment.
