#2 Aymeric Laporte (Spain)

Aymeric Laporte was one of the stables in Luis Enrique’s team and for good reasons. At the age of 27, the Spaniard is well experienced, still in his prime, and has been part of a winning team for three years now. The Manchester City defender under the guidance of Pep Guardiola has become a multiple times Premier League champion, he also has four Carling Cups, as well as a FA Cup. Although defensively, Spain were not the best team, they still managed to go as far as the Semi-finals, and Laporte played a big part in it.

Not only did he manage to keep two clean sheets in the group stage, he also scored a goal in the 5-0 thrashing of Slovakia. His future at the moment is up in the air as he has claimed that he is no longer happy in the English club. This is due to the fact that John Stones and Ruben Diaz have both overtaken him as the club’s main defenders and at the prime of his career, Laporte does not want to be a substitute or a second choice.

The former Athletic Bilbao defender was linked with Barca even before the Euro, and after his fantastic performance in the Euros, the Catalans should seriously consider him, as he could easily replace the aging Pique, and could become the mentor for the younger defenders.
