#3 Aggressive transfer policy

Last season Barcelona revealed their massive 1 billion euros plus debt. After looking at their financial situation, salary caps, and wage cuts, not many people would have expected Barca to have a lively transfer window. People expected the five-time European winners to have a rather passive transfer season, with a lot of player sales.

It has gone the opposite way in fact, with more players coming in than going out. The Catalans have already brought in four new players, and have sold just three players. Yes, a few more players have been loaned out or their contracts have run out, but a lot more have returned from loans as well. This goes on to show that Laporta is not willing to play with the rules, and instead of waiting for finances to go up, he exploited the free agents market, and picked up three brilliant players.

Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Kun Aguero have all joined the club for free, and it could have been even more, however, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma decided to join Paris Saint-Germain instead. With four new players already in, Barca are still not looking to stop, and they are looking for even more investments.

Currently, the Catalans are looking to bring in an experienced center-back who will replace both Clement Lenglet, and Samuel Umtiti. They are also keeping an eye on Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, as the player could be sold by the Sky Blues in this window. Apart from that, they are looking to let go of a lot of superstars in order to accommodate younger players and new signings. The transfer window is going according to plan for the Catalans however if they do not sell some players soon, all of their good work could be undone.
