#1 The Six-time Ballon d’Or winner will most likely stay

Last season was littered with controversies for Lionel Messi. The club captain and legend decided that he no longer wanted to stay with the club, however, later he decided that he wanted to complete his contract. Ever since then, there has been a dark cloud placed upon his career. No one knew whether he would sign a new contract with the Catalans or not. Although at the end of the season, Messi did not sign a new contract, new reports suggest that the player will stay on at the club.

At the moment, the player is a free agent, and other clubs are more than welcome to send him offers; however, the Argentine’s heart remains with Barcelona. Reports suggest that a contract has already been finalized, and the team is just waiting on selling a few more players before both parties sign the contract. Messi is reportedly taking a huge wage cut in order to remain at the club, this just shows his passion for the club, and his love for his fans. Keeping the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will be a huge victory for the club, as the player’s form is just getting better with his age.

The 34-year-old had an impressive season with the Catalans last season, scoring 38 goals in all competitions, along with 14 assists. His form only improved in Copa America, where he won the Player of the Tournament along with the Golden Boot award. He is still the world’s best player, and losing him would be catastrophic however, the new reports are positive, and if they keep Messi, Atletico Madrid will have a hard time defending their league title.
