The Brazilian playmakers’ future at Barcelona is still up in the air
According to Football365, Kia Joorabchian, Coutinho’s agent, is trying to move his client to Spurs. Whether or not the Premier League side would consider making a run at his client will depend on the future of Kane.
The England captain has been linked with a move to Manchester City and a €100 million bid has been made and rejected by Spurs. Kane held out the first few days of pre-season training but is set to make his return later this week.
Barcelona has been trying to offload the Brazilian all summer but have not received any offers. Coutinho had been offered to AC Milan but those talks never went beyond the rumor stage.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Coutinho could end up on Spurs’ list of transfers if and when Kane is sold. His agent’s plan is to place him on another big side and for his client to feel important again.
From Barcelona’s viewpoint, they realize they may have to eat a significant loss on a transfer but are not going to give him away. Despite the injuries and poor form, he is still seen as an important player in the eyes of manager Ronald Koeman.
The Catalans’ hopes is the interest in Coutinho picks up during the last couple of weeks of the transfer window where clubs are looking to make a splash with a big-name signing. That’s a lot of hope being placed on that scenario and quite a gamble if it does not end up working out.
Coutinho is still in Barca recovering from an injury that sidelined him nearly all last season. The expectation is he will soon be fit but the injury may play a role in the level of interest from other teams.
