Ousmane Dembele nears contract renewal with Barcelona
Ousmane Dembele was one of the players whom the Catalans were willing to sell this summer. Although Joan Laporta said before that Dembele is a world-class player, who needs to be protected, Barca’s financial situation would have allowed them to sell the Frenchman if they got a reasonable offer. That offer has not come in, and now Barcelona is looking to renew his contract, as he has less than a year remaining on his current one. Dembele is also willing to renew his Barcelona contract, and thus negotiations should not take too long if both parties decide to go ahead with the new contract.

The former Borussia Dortmund man who came to Barcelona on a huge 100 million transfer deal, failed to live up to the fan’s expectations. He was supposed to be the direct replacement for the departing Neymar however, he spent most of his time in Barca, struggling with injuries, and his only good season with the club was the 2020/21 one. His current contract is due to expire in 2022 June, and with less than a year remaining, Barca knows that they must act fast to secure the player.
Should the Catalans lose a player of his caliber for free, it would be a huge loss for the club. Thus, the club has been trying to make the player sign a new contract for weeks; however, the player was apparently apprehensive of the new contract due to the wages being offered. Dembele was quite aware that he could get a better deal in some other club should he let his contract with Barca run out. However, that seems to have changed, and Dembele is ready to accept a new contract.
Ousmane Dembele is ready to accept a Barcelona renewal
The player must have found his calling at Barcelona in order to stay with the club, and even contemplate taking a reduction in his wages. The 24-year-old who had been battling with injuries season after season, finally found a spot in the team underneath Ronald Koeman. The Dutch manager took a gamble on him after Ansu Fati got injured, and Dembele took advantage of the situation by putting in some good performances. Dembele might be an important member of the squad next season, and thus it is good news that he is willing to stay on.
