Paris Saint-Germain have gone on a buying spree this season although most of their new transfers have been free. The PSG ultras might be in for another treat as the world’s best footballer, Lionel Messi, has just announced that he will no longer be a Barcelona player from next season onwards, and PSG is really the only club he might go to. The French side were closely linked with him throughout last season, however, Messi wanted to stay at Barca. Now the tides have changed and the player is being forced out of the club by La Liga, and PSG are offering him an insane offer, which he will most likely accept.

More from Everything Barca

For Messi, it was never about the salary, he was happy at Barcelona and wanted to retire there. However, the reality of the situation was much more serious than that. The La Liga board of directors put a wage cap on Barcelona due to the amount of debt that they had amassed over the years. Thus, even though the Argentine wanted to remain at the club, he was not allowed to carry on. This was shocking news for Barca fans however, PSG fans were overjoyed after hearing this news.

Paris Saint-Germain offering a mega-contract to Lionel Messi

The French side are one of the only teams who can afford Messi’s shockingly high salary, and according to L’Equipe, PSG are offering Messi 40 million euros a year after taxes.

This is a huge amount and Messi could easily make 120 million euros if he stays with the club for three years. This is just the minimum, as there will be performance-related bonuses which could easily take the figure up to 200 million euros. He will be paid 769k euros a week which is much more than Barca could have offered him. However, money is not the factor for Messi, it’s the competition.

Right now PSG is the best club for Messi, not only because they are one of the best teams in Europe, and are favorites to win the UEFA Champions League, but also because one of his best friends, Neymar, already plays for that club. It is unlikely that any other club can afford the player right now. Manchester City were considered however, they already spent around 118 million euros for Jack Grealish, and are unlikely to go in for Messi.
