Talks between Barcelona and Spurs over Ilaix have intensified

The Catalans believe Spurs will match their asking price of €20 million. However, Spurs are likely to offer a fixed amount and include variables.

Either way, the transfer saga surrounding Ilaix could be over if and when they can reach an agreement. What could derail a possible deal is the same thing that derailed an extension with Barcelona — the player’s representatives.

While Ilaix appears to keen to joining Spurs, his representatives may feel less so. Sport report that what is holding up a deal is Spurs are very hesitant in paying the fees that Ilaix’s agents are demanding. In addition, they already had an agreement with RB Leipzig and in this case, the agents were content with the fees they would be receiving.

The German side initially tabled a bid of €6 million, which was promptly rejected. They raised it to €8 million but it was still not enough.

The only thing that appears to be certain is that Ilaix does not want to waste a season sitting in the stands. But that is the scenario awaiting him if a deal cannot be reached with Spurs.

By all accounts, Ilaix has not been advised wisely but now is the time to take control. Spurs are offering an out and it is up to him to accept it.
