While Cristiano Ronaldo has made his return to Manchester United, the latest transfer rumors claim that his agent Jorge Mendes had offered Barcelona the chance of signing the Real Madrid legend.

Ronaldo shocked the world when he announced that he was leaving Juventus with no clear destination in sight. While Manchester City were reportedly close to signing the former United superstar, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner ended up returning to Old Trafford.

According to Catalunya Radio, however, the two Premier League giants were not the only ones to be contacted by super-agent Mendes. Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and most interestingly Barca were all offered the chance to secure the 36-year-old.

While the idea of Ronaldo joining the Catalans would have been unfathomable for the fans of both Barca and Los Blancos, the Blaugranas themselves denied the idea. It is unsure whether they would have ever considered his signing if they had the finances for it, as president Joan Laporta prioritizes the signing of a no. 9. But the reality of the matter is that the Spanish giants had to let their biggest ever superstar in Lionel Messi leave due to La Liga’s salary cap issues.

With Ronaldo keen on leaving Juventus, it is rumored that Mendes offered a possible deal to multiple European giants but in the end, only City and United remained and the latter were victorious in securing a reunion.
