President Joan Laporta has been vocal about wanting to make more sales this summer to help with their finances, and despite letting Lionel Messi leave for Paris Saint-Germain, the wage bill needs to be reduced further.
While the president had planned to sell unwanted players like Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic, or Philippe Coutinho, the lack of offers for them has forced Laporta into looking for solutions elsewhere.
Emerson Royal might be leaving Barcelona
With Barca desperate to make more sales, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached an agreement for Emerson for a fee of roughly 30 million euros. While the deal is not complete, the only major task left is the agreement of the player himself.
Emerson did state that the Barca move was a dream come true and while he must have hoped to bring competition to Sergino Dest, it seems that the Catalans are prepared to let him leave. If Emerson does leave, Barca will seriously lack full-back options on both wings with Jordi Alba and Sergino Dest as the only reliable candidates to fill the spots.
While this sale will help Barca financially, their sporting project will come under big threat especially if any of these players sustain an injury. Koeman can rely on youngster Oscar Mingueza and Alejandro Balde to cover for Dest and Alba respectively, putting so much pressure on youngsters may lead to other issues.
Should Barca sell Emerson?
