Lionel Messi left Barcelona this summer after the club failed to register him because of the perilous financial situation of the club. Since the heartbreaking separation, the Argentine has joined PSG on a free transfer as the French Giants assemble a star-studded, ridiculously talented and quality-laden team.

The current PSG team houses Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Marco Veratti and other brilliant footballers to grace the beautiful game. With a squad that can become the opposition’s worst nightmare, PSG are already the favourites to lift the UEFA Champions League.

Messi in his final press conference at Camp Nou, spoke about winning one more Champions League. He pressed onto the point that there were a couple of instances where the Catalans would’ve managed to make it to the final but failed to do so.

"“I would have liked to win another Champions League, that semi with Liverpool, the one vs Chelsea … but this happens. I want to win another CL” (via The Athletic)"

Argentine icon predicts Lionel Messi to retire at Barcelona

Juan Roman Riquelme, another Argentina icon and former Barca player, believes that Messi will win a Champions League title with PSG. Messi’s compatriot sees the 34-year-old adding more honors to his name and more silverware with his new club PSG, where he recently kick-started a new chapter.

"“I hope that Messi goes on to enjoy Paris. I don’t know if it’s strange, but we are all excited to see him enjoy playing with [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar. If they don’t win the Champions League now, they won’t win it. I think Messi will win the Champions League with PSG and retire at Barcelona.” (via Goal)"

Riquelme who shared the dressing room with the Argentine maestro has predicted that Messi will come back and retire with the Blaugrana. Perhaps, that would be the most fitting end to one of the most glorious stories this sport has ever told.

The 34 year old has signed a two year deal with PSG with an option to extend for one more year. If Messi does not extend and decides to return to Barcelona, he’ll be 36, on the time of his homecoming. Should he remain physically sharp, chances of him donning the Barcelona shirt again may be high.

There are also murmurs of him spending the last legs of his career in MLS with talks of playing for David Beckham’s Inter Miami, however, the Blaugrana have made it clear that their door will always be open for their prodigal son.
