RB Leipzig player Dani Olmo had reached an agreement with Barcelona
On transfer deadline day, news broke that Barcelona were interested in signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The Catalans tried to bring the Spaniard to Camp Nou but there was no agreement as Barcelona’s offer was way off than Leipzig’s 75 million euros asking price.
A transfer deadline day move never materialized but the Blaugrana are determined to sign Olmo. As per Mundo Deportivo, Barca will return for Olmo in the winter transfer window and will hope to change Leipzig’s stance.

Joan Laporta and the new board members are optimistic of having a Barcelona team full of La Masia graduates in the coming years and signing Olmo will be one more step towards it. Earlier in the window, the Catalans signed Eric Garcia on a free transfer from Manchester City, a player who was bred at La Masia in his youth.
Leipzig had communicated to Olmo that the La Liga giants are interested in signing him and even gave a go ahead to hold personal talks. However, Barcelona’s 58 million offer didn’t entice the Germans and despite being open to selling him, an agreement was not reached.
Dani Olmo agreed to a five year deal with Barcelona
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already got the ‘okay’ of Olmo who is keen to return to the Spanish club, where he took his first baby steps in the world of football. The Spaniard had agreed to a five year deal with Barcelona without even looking at the conditions which was well appreciated by the Spanish club hierarchy.
Olmo was reluctant to return to La Liga but if Barcelona come calling, the 23 year old would not waste a second contemplating the proposal. In the coming weeks it is expected that the communication channel may resume as Leipzig are well aware of the player’s desire.
Joan Laporta is keen to rebuild Barcelona on the pillars of La Masia, a philosophy that previously made Barcelona a trophy vending machine. Back when Pep Guardiola was in charge and Barcelona were at the zenith of football, the core group of players that dictated the opposition were La Masia talents: Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Carles Puyol, Sergio Busquets, Pedro, Gerard Pique and many more.
With the dawn of a new era, Laporta aims to recalibrate Barcelona’s fulcrum on La Masia products rather than dishing out money for big superstars. Ansu Fati, Garcia, Pablo Paez ‘Gavi’, Nico Gonzalez, Oscar Mingueza and Alejandro Balde offer a ray of shinning hope. Other talented players like Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Ousmane Dembele further strengthen the idea of a young core.
Olmo would be another step in emphasizing the approach Barcelona will have going forward. Eyes will now turn to the January transfer window but in these four months, the camps of Olmo, Leipzig and Barcelona will have plenty of time to analyze the deal that can suit all parties.
