With only a few days until Barcelona face Bayern Munich in the Champions League — they’ll now have to do so without Martin Braithwaite.

The Danish striker suffered a relapse during training and is set to miss the match against the German side. Adding insult to injury, he is in danger of missing the rest of the year.

According to Sport, via Gerard Romero, Braithwaite could be sidelined up to four months with a knee injury.

Barcelona’s daunting task against Bayern Munich just got even more difficult

Braithwaite was forced to come off in the team’s last match against Getafe after suffering an injury and did not feature at all for Denmark during the international break.

The player underwent some tests to determine the extent of the injury and whether or not surgery is going to be required.

The Catalan side was already facing a number of questions heading into the match against Bayern Munich. Both Sergiño Dest and Jordi Alba were questionable with Alba having more chances out of the two to be fit in time.

This latest setback presents a lot of problems for manager Ronald Koeman who has been under a lot of criticism for the way his team plays despite winning two out of their first three games. In their last match before the break, Barcelona ended up playing with five at the back, at home against Getafe.

The only good news for Koeman is Philippe Coutinho is set to play some minutes after coming back from a long-term injury. The Brazilian was given the medical green light in the Joan Gamper match against Juventus.

However, he has yet to play this season with Koeman stating Coutinho needed more training to be match fit.

As it stands, with the Braithwaite injury, Barcelona head into the Champions League match on Tuesday with Memphis, Luuk de Jong, and Yusuf Demir as the club’s only three options upfront — assuming Coutinho is used in midfield.
