Sergio Aguero finally made his unofficial debut for Barcelona in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Cornella. Much to the delight of Ronald Koeman, the Argentinian also scored.

It was the first minutes for Aguero in a Barcelona jersey since arriving as a free agent from Manchester City.

According to ESPN, the striker scored the opening goal in what ended in a 2-2 draw. Philippe Coutinho scored the other.

Aguero’s return should be a significant boost for Barcelona

Barcelona has struggled to start the season defensively and offensively as well. They struggle to create goal scoring opportunities and when they do, struggle to convert them.

One of the hopes for Koeman is that Aguero’s return can help cure the finishing aspect. When healthy, Aguero is one of the best strikers in the world. The problem, however, has been staying healthy.

The game against Cornella was scheduled so Aguero could regain some match fitness. He’s been training normally with the rest of his teammates and the plan is for him to make his official debut against Valencia.

Getting him back is important considering the fixtures coming up for the Catalan side. After Valencia, they face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League before having to play Real Madrid. All three matches are at home meaning they are obligated to win all three.

One of the reasons why Koeman is still the manager is because he is going to get a chance to prove what he can do when he has all, or mostly all, of the players available.

He got Ansu Fati back a couple of weeks ago and should be able to count on Aguero.

What this also means is if the club continues on this downward trajectory, the Dutchman will no longer have any excuses to fall back on.

With Fati, Memphis and now Aguero back in the mix, the display offensively has to improve. After all, one cure for a leaky defense is a strong offense.
