The return of Ansu Fati from injury has been a major boost for Barcelona this season. The highly-rated youngster has been in stellar form since his return against Levante and has given a breath of fresh air to Ronald Koeman’s side.
Currently the new No. 10 at Barca, after Messi’s departure, he has not let the weight of the jersey strangle him a bit. In the last match against Valencia at the Camp Nou on Sunday, Fati was inspirational in Barca’s comeback win after Gaya gave the visitors an early lead. Fati scored a sensational goal to equalize for Barca and was later instrumental in winning the penalty, which Depay ultimately converted.
Though, what might be a concern for Barca fans is the current situation regarding Fati’s contract, which expires at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Fati’s renewal is expected next month!
It was widely reported by Catalan outlet El Nacional last week that Jorge Mendes, the agent of Fati, wants a two-year deal for his client, contrary to the club’s desire to offer Fati a long-term extension. Mendes, as reported, intends to again negotiate with the club, for a more lucrative deal for his client before 2024.
According to Sport, Mendes was in Barcelona last week, though there was no progression in the renewal talks. However, Fati intends to continue and succeed at Barca, and as per the report, the club is in a hurry to extend Fati’s contract to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
It is expected that Mendes and the club would strike a deal during the international break in November.
Even at the tender age of 18, Ansu Fati has emerged as one of the vital players in the squad, and his performances would be vital if Barca has to enjoy a good season. Barcelona play against Dynamo Kyiv in a must-win match on Wednesday followed by the El Clasico on Sunday.
