Barcelona superstar, Jordi Alba, has commented on the recent draw against Alaves and he is not at all pleased with the way the club is going. Whereas near the end of last season the Catalans were in the title race along with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, this season they have not been able to get out of the mid-table positions. At the moment the Catalan Kings are playing like a mid-table side and this is not what the Barca players and fans are used to. The loss against Rayo Vallecano and draw against Alaves symbolize how their current season is going.

Their recent draw against the bottom half side was extremely one-sided with the Catalans having 80 percent of the total possession throughout the game. They also took 16 shots while keeping five on target. In contrast, their opponents took only three shots throughout the game and kept only two of them on target. This clearly shows that Barcelona had a host of opportunities however, they failed to take their chances. Alba shared the same sentiment after the game and said,

"“It’s a bad point, one from nine, a team like Barca needs more. We are not happy with where we are in the table. It’s really tough for us to score goals. We put pressure on but we’re not scoring”“They didn’t have too many chances but we had some. Memphis hit the post but the goal wouldn’t go in.”Source Barca Blaugranes"

This is true, the Catalans now have only one point from three games which is not what an elite club should be. Even though they are going through a transitional phase, they have good players, talented players who could play for some of the best clubs in Europe. Thus, losing to teams like Vallecano and Benfica is still not acceptable for the club. Xavi Hernandez will need some time to bring out the best in the team however, some short-term improvement will also be needed.
