Former Barcelona and Spanish legend, and current Barca manager, Xavi Hernandez, opened up about the huge rumor that Ferran Torres would be moving into the Catalan club, however, he chose to remain diplomatic and not reveal too much about the ongoing deal. At the moment, Torres is a Manchester City player and his loyalties lie to Pep Guardiola’s side. However, according to the latest reports and rumors, the player is looking for a way back to Spain and a call from Barcelona is one he just cannot refuse. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two elite clubs in Spain and every Spanish player dreams to play for one of these clubs. Thus, it is not hard to see why Torres also wants to move to one of these clubs.

Apart from the sheer history of Barca, Torres also knows that his playtime at City might drastically fall should the side acquire Erling Haaland in the winter transfer market. He has played for the club only 43 times and has scored 16 goals in those matches. Torres is one of the most promising players from City and he truly showed his worth in the UEFA Nations League and the Euros. He managed to score six goals in eight appearances in the Nations League and two goals and one assist in the Euros. Thus, as the stats show, he is a fast-developing player and is only 21 years old, so there is a lot more to be offered in the future.

Barcelona boss opens up about Ferran Torres rumors

He would be a great deal for Barcelona and rumors even suggested that the Catalan team could add Ousmane Dembele in a swap deal. However, neither the club manager, Hernandez, or Barca Vice-President Rafa Yuste was open enough to talk about the Spanish player potentially making a comeback to La Liga. In a post-match interview with Xavi, after his team defeated Villarreal, the former legend said,

"“It’s not the right time to talk about signings. Not right after the game, which will give us a great boost of morale.”Source Goal"

In an interview with Moviestar Plus, the vice-president confirmed their interest in the player however, he refused to give away too many details as the deal is probably in the early stages and neither party wants to reveal the confidential details of the transaction. He said in the interview before the Villarreal match,

"“Ferran is a great player, like others. We are working with discretion to seek the best for the club. We simply have friends at City, there is a very good relationship and Reverter has paid a courtesy visit.”Source Goal"

Well, although not much was said afterwards, one thing is for certain, Barca are interested in the player and the player is interested in joining the Catalans as well. Pep had already stated that he would not interfere in the move and allow the player to move to Barca if he wanted to. The financial aspect of the deal will be a bit tougher to solve though because the Catalans are in heavy debt while the Citizens highly value the player.

We will have to just wait and see how this transfer saga turns out however, should the Catalans manage to give Xavi his first transfer request, it would really show us that the club is backing the manager and is ready to give him all the support he needs to bring Barcelona back on to the spotlight and the elite stage.
