Barcelona is in a tough position now, on one hand, they need to focus on pulling it back together in La Liga whereas, on the other hand, they must also prepare for German giants, Bayern Munich. The Catalans have not been having a good time against the Germans recently and in their last match, the current Bundesliga leaders thrashed Barca 3-0. With Barcelona currently in seventh position in the league and only two points above Benfica in the UEFA Champions League table, things are not looking too good for the former European powerhouse. Should they finish low in their domestic league table and get knocked out of the Champions League, not only will it be a huge hit to their club’s prestigious history but also to their finances.

According to reports from Spain, the Catalan Kings estimated a quarter-final finish in the UCL this season. That is not very good for a team like Barcelona however, given their current state of affairs, it was a reasonable ask. However, with Ronald Koeman not having the same success as last season, the Dutch manager was shown the door and Xavi Hernandez was brought in to fix the damage done. Right now Barca needs to win their last match to guarantee a spot in the Round of 16. Benfica will face Dynamo Kyiv and the Portuguese side are the heavy favourites.

Should the Catalans be unable to make it to their predicted quarter-final finish, SPORT reports that the club will lose out on 20.2 million euros. Even if they manage to make it to the next round, they will get 9.6 million euros but that seems like a tough ask for now. The Europa League will not be too much of a consolation either since the winners of the secondary European tournament only ends up winning 14.9 million euros. To make sure that the Blaugrana hit their financial projections, they will definitely have to beat Bayern in the upcoming match or hope Benfica loses. Either way, things are not looking very good for them at the moment.
