It was common knowledge that Barcelona would struggle this season without their evergreen legend, Lionel Messi, but no anticipated a fall of such magnitude. One of the biggest things that Messi brought to the table at Barca was his ability to score regularly. Whenever Messi played, the Catalans looked a lot more threatening in front of the goal. However, when they played without, they often failed to put the ball in the back of the net. While the Blaugrana did bring in Memphis Depay to become the main goalscorer, he failed to be the Messi figure in the club. The Dutchman has scored eight goals so far; however, in 21 games, that seems less than impressive.
The rest of the team is not helping out much either and with Ansu Fati out injured again, the Catalans are finding it tough to break stubborn defenses. It is time Xavi Hernandez takes action against the failing attack as he has certainly noticed it. Hernandez’s first request for transfer was Ferran Torres and the Manchester City player is ready to come to Barca as well. However, a more central striker might be what the club needs and that is why they have their eyes set on Manchester United‘s Edinson Cavani, according to Mundo Deportivo. The 34 year old Uruguayan could be the perfect replacement for Luis Suarez, as Sergio Aguero’s career came to a sudden halt. He is out of the squad right now due to injuries and the Red Devils could very well let him go since they already have Cristiano Ronaldo and a lot of young talented superstars.
Should the new manager of the English team deem that Cavani is no longer required in the club, then there will be nothing stopping the Catalans from bringing the legendary striker to their team. Barca already tried to bring success to their scoring end by bringing in Aguero this season but now they will have another chance of adding a quality experienced player into their squad for free. Cavani’s contract will end by the end of the season and if United feel like he is surplus to the club’s needs, then he is certainly up for grabs for Barca.
Should Barca look to sign Cavani?
