Barcelona negotiating with two multi-million euro sponsors
Barcelona and Rakuten will finally close their chapter for good and their five topsy-turvy years can be put behind them. The Japanese company are currently the main sponsors for Barcelona and the company name is on the front of the shirt which gets the most attention. A five years deal was struck in 2017 with the company however, since 2019, the two organizations started to contradict each other and cause internal problems. This was mostly due to the coronavirus pandemic which hugely affected the company and they then decided to cut fundings to Barcelona as well. This was not well appreciated and left the club in a serious financial crisis.
Apart from that, the Japanese company was also severely offended by the actions of Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann. The duo’s leaked video caused more tension between the club and the company; however, the good news is that the tenure for the sponsorship is almost at an end and Barcelona already have two big offers on their hands. Two cryptocurrency trading and exchanging companies, Binance and FTX, are ready to offer big money for the bragging rights of getting their names on Barcelona’s shirt. These companies are well established and have net profits of almost a billion dollars.
Barcelona’s economic vice president, Eduard Romeu, expects a 1.5 billion turnover within half a decade however, for that to happen, they will need to negotiate a good deal on the shirt branding. Currently, they are being paid around 55 million euros by Rakuten however, Romeu says that they will negotiate on pre-pandemic prices and the worth of the shirt now is at least 60 million euros. Barca’s CEO, Ferran Reverter, also mentioned that these two companies are not the only ones they have in mind and that there are other alternatives as well.
Who would you want Barca to sign if they manage to get big sponsors?
