Barcelona is currently in a complete rebuilding phase and they need to bring in a lot of new players and youngsters from other teams and their own academy. Xavi Hernandez is all for youth development and under his management, several youngsters have risen to the main team. However, there is one youngster amongst them who has consistently been performing at a top level. Ronald Araujo, who was discovered by Ronald Koeman last season, has remained as Barca’s main defender and no one can take his place in the squad. Although the Catalans have several other defenders, they do not come close to Araujo’s talent and form and thus, it is essential for the Catalans to keep the defender at the club.

The problem with Araujo is that his contract is expiring in 2023 and the former European giants will have to offer him a new and improved contract. At the moment, the Uruguayan centre-back is one of the most underpaid players in the club and other defenders like Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, and Eric Garcia, make a lot more than what he does. Umtiti is one of the top earners for Barca and Lenglet is one of the highest-paid defenders at the club. Pique and Garcia are on subsidized pay, yet they make more than Araujo.

Ronald Araujo rightfully wants to be paid his worth at Barcelona

Thus, it is not hard to see why the youngster wants a big improvement in his new contract. While numerous Premier League clubs are swimming around the player, he is committed to Barca since the club gave him a chance to prove himself and he has been with the B team of the club as well. There is a connection with the club, however, if the Catalans do not give him a fair price, they could lose their best defender to a rival club.
