According to trusted journalist and Barcelona enthusiast, Gerard Romero, Barcelona have already acquired Chelsea Captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, and a deal has been agreed upon in principle and now they just have to wait until the time is right to announce it. The Blues captain is on the last six months of contract and has failed to extend his contract with the English side. With time ticking out and seemingly no improvement on the Chelsea side, there is no reason to see why the legend would not look to move to a different club. Barcelona is one of the most prestigious clubs in the world and to end his career with the Catalans would be a dream for him.

The right-back turned centre-back is currently 32 years old and the policy in Chelsea is that they only give one-year contracts to players over the age of 30. This is a deal-breaker for a lot of older players however, for Azpilicueta, it should not have come as a surprise. Still, maybe he wants a more stable future and if Barca can offer him even a two-year contract, he would be happier. Plus, the player is from Spain but has lived in the tragic English weather for almost a decade, the sweet sunshine in Spain is surely calling him home.

Barcelona keen on signing the Chelsea skipper on a free

While Thomas Tuchel made it clear that Azpilicueta has a good understanding with the club, he refused to give out more information regarding the move. Barcelona wants the player, purely as a temporary replacement for the underperforming Sergino Dest. The former Ajax player will probably be sold by the club or sent out on a loan however, they only have Dani Alves to fill up that spot and they need one more player. Azpilicueta would be a terrific addition to the club, as he is not only well experienced but also has a good disciple and is one of the best defenders in the world. He will not be a permanent solution however, he would be a good answer to the problem, at least for now.
