Barcelona ravaged by Covid outbreak with the team

Barcelona is hurting due to all the new covid related cases however, their squad depth was not that great, to begin with, either. Yes, they had a lot of big-name players to fill up the main squad, however, they do not have the squad depth to fill up some of the positions when the big-name players are eventually injured. Now, it has been recorded that 10 people have contracted the Covid-19 virus and although they are in good health, Xavi Hernandez has almost no one left to use. Three new players were announced Covid positive today and that might be the last straw for the Catalans.

As of now, the likes of Gavi, Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti, Sergino Dest, Philippe Coutinho, Ez Abde, Clement Lenglet, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba and Alex Balde are down with the virus. Other than that, four regular starters for Barca are also out due to injuries and there is a risk of them contracting the virus as well. It has become an epidemic within the club and La Liga should really consider their situation since the club has been effectively reduced to 11 players. It is not possible for the club to play Real Mallorca on the 2nd of January.

Barcelona will have to use ‘B’ team players after Covid outbreak

With many teams in different leagues getting days off due to the sudden uprising in covid, Barcelona could be given some time off to heal from the devastating effects of the virus. It is not that the virus has harmed the players however, they are not usable by Xavi anymore and must isolate for 10 days before getting a second test done.

It is nearly impossible for the club to play now considering the fact that three of the 11 playable players are goalkeepers. The match will surely be rescheduled as one just cannot expect Barca to play in these trying times. Having said that, the club has confirmed that the preparations for the clash against Mallorca continues, with many ‘B’ team players training with the first team.
