New injury woes for FC Barcelona as list keeps piling up
With the likes of Pedri, Ansu Fati, Sergino Dest, and Martin Braithwaite already injured, Barcelona must now deal with even more injuries as two of the main players in the team have contracted Covid-19. The team was already pretty broken and fragmented, but these new injuries will definitely be an even bigger hassle. The two players who will be out of commission are Dani Alves and Clement Lenglet. The main problem with their injuries is that the team does not have many replacements for them. While yes, in the case of Lenglet, there are quite a few replacements such as Eric Garica, Samuel Umtiti, and Gerard Pique, for Dani Alves only Oscar Mingueza is left.
Mingueza is a centre-back who can play as a right-back but he is not a traditional full-back. This could be a problem for the Catalans as they face Real Mallorca on the 2nd of January. Add to that, Sergio Busquets and Gavi are also suspended and that means that the squad that will face Mallorca will be an extremely weak one. This is a serious problem for the Catalans however, the good news is that neither of the two Covid positive players are seriously ill and both of them are in good health.
Barcelona will soon have some players return from injury
The duo is expected to be back on the 10th of January while Pedri, Fati, and Memphis Depay are expected to return before that. Fati is in his recovery stage and will start practicing and training soon; however, it is unlikely that he will play for Barca on 2nd January. The road ahead is a bit turbulent at the moment for the Catalans however, it won’t be like that for very long and new players are also expected to join the team soon. These are the moments that will make or break the club and Xavi must use all his resources and experience in these trying times.
Will Barcelona manage to cope with the increasing injury list?
