Barcelona will need to sell players in order to register Ferran Torres
Around a week ago, Barcelona confirmed that they had completed the signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City and he officially became a Barca player. However, that was not the entire truth, as although he is under the Catalan organization now, he is yet to be registered as a Barca player. See, the main reason why Lionel Messi was forced to leave the club was due to the salary wage implemented by La Liga. The Blaugrana couldn’t maintain the salary limit while keeping Messi and the same thing has happened for Torres. The club cannot register the player without going over the salary cap and thus he will not be featured in any matches until Barca can offload some players.
In a recent press conference, Xavi Hernandez told reporters that Torres is a fantastic player, as well as a brilliant person. He is looking forward to working with the Spaniard however, things will have to go one step at a time. Right now the player is just recovering from an injury and rushing him into training with physically fit players could hurt him once again. On top of that, Xavi mentioned the salary cap issue and confirmed that the Catalans would have let go of several players in order to register him at the club.
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez talks about Ferran Torres
"“We’ll see how the salary cap situation is, if it’s possible right away. There has to be players leaving. If we get Dembele to re-sign his contract and lower his pay it will allow us to sign Torres and we hope that it can happen.”Source Goal"
This is the problem that the Catalans could face all year long since all of their players are on very high contracts. Players like Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele are some of the world’s top earners and that is very detrimental to the financial structure of the club. Not only will Barcelona have to sell a few of these top earners, but they will also need to adjust the wages of the other players and negotiations will be key for the success of the club.
