Barcelona open to sign Valencia’s captain Jose Gaya
Jose Gaya and Barcelona have been linked to a transfer rumor once again however, this time it might be an actual possibility since the Spanish left-back has only one and a half years left on his contract and Valencia will have to sell him or risk losing him on a free transfer. According to SPORT, the Valencia captain has decided that his services will come to better use at a different club. He is already 26 years old and needs to take the next step forward in his career. Barca has been fixated on the player since last season and thus it is natural for him to want to move to that club.
Gaya’s contract expires on June 30th, 2023 and thus the upcoming summer transfer window will be their last chance to get a good price for the player. In the winter transfer window, many clubs will try to push for a lower figure since Valencia will otherwise lose the player on a free transfer. Gaya has also made it clear that he does not want to extend his current contract with the club and has reportedly rejected a lot of contract proposals from his current side.
Barcelona look to secure Jose Gaya on a free
All this seems very favorable for the Catalans, however, whether he will come to the club in Summer or Winter is the main question. While the Blaugrana do have the funds to bring him in immediately if they absolutely have to, they would much rather spend the big bucks on Erling Haaland, who happens to be their main target at the moment. Alvaro Morata is their secondary target if they fail to secure Haaland and even that will require a hefty fee. While the club definitely needs a left-back to replace Jordi Alba, Xavi Hernandez is more focused on the attack and thus bringing in a world-class attacker is the priority at the moment.
