Injury Update: Barcelona gets massive injury boost
The spread of the new variant of the Coronavirus, the omicron variant, has been rampant throughout the world; however, it has especially affected Barcelona. A lot of football clubs have been heavily fragmented due to the spread of the virus within their first team but for Barca, an entirely new squad had to be played since they had almost no players left from the first team. At its peak, over 10 Barcelona players were suffering from the virus at the same time, and in order to maintain regulations regarding isolation, a lot of players missed out on games.
However, some good news is finally hitting the Catalan fans since Barca announced yesterday that three players are now fit to join back the first team. Gavi, Alejandro Balde and Sergino Dest have all recovered from Covid and will be reintroduced in the training sessions. While none of them was seriously ill, Xavi Hernandez might take a few games to let them get their paces back. The omicron variant has not been lethal in any sense; however, being away from the training field for over 10 days hurts a player’s performance and they cannot be expected to perform the same way, as a player with more consistency.
Barcelona struggling with injuries in 2022
While these three players are going to make a comeback soon, there are a lot of other players who are injured and cannot be used. Some of these players are Frenkie de Jong, Ansu Fati, Pedri, Ronald Araujo, etc. These players have more serious injuries and will take some time before they are ready to get back up on the field.
Apart from that, only Gavi was one of the main players amongst the three players returning. Dest has been rumored to be on the transfer list while Balde hasn’t shown much to say that he is very important to the team. However, with the way how things are going, Xavi will definitely enjoy this injury boost to his squad.
