Barcelona has targeted a centre-back as one of their needs for next season. Currently, the club has a plethora of centre-backs however, none of them are living up to their standards and some of them are very high earners. Players such as Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet are top earners in the club however, neither of them is adored by the fans or the manager. While Umtiti managed to make a deal with Barcelona that reduces his wages significantly, it also allows him to stay on at the club. It is evident that the player does not want to move away from the club and thus a new contract till 2026 has been agreed upon by the club.

Lenglet, on the other hand, has a long-term contract at the moment and there are no signs of renegotiations. The French defender is obviously struggling to play at the level Barca needs him to,  and he has the tendency to lose focus during matches. This has led to younger players such as Ronald Araujo replacing him. Now that Araujo and Garcia are part of the team, Barca needs an experienced centre-back to guide them and selling Lenglet will provide them with the funds that they need for the new transfer. Meanwhile, loaning Umtiti is another option as the Frenchman has realized he won’t be getting much playing minutes at the Nou Camp.
