As anticipated, Barcelona has finally opened their negotiations for a new right back. It was abundantly evident that Barca was not happy with the performances being shown by Sergino Dest. The former Ajax man was handpicked by Ronald Koeman last season however, with the removal of Koeman and the introduction of Xavi Hernandez, the right-back/wing-back became absolutely redundant for the team. Neither Xavi nor Joan Laporta, the club president, had faith in the player and now they are actively looking to sell him in order to bring in someone new. Now, it seems like selling him is not the only option as they have opened talks for a swap deal instead.
Barcelona look to secure a new right-back
The American right-back may be on his way back to his former club and Moroccan international, Noussair Mazraoui, maybe taking his place in the Barca squad. According to news outlet, AS, the Catalan side has opened negotiations and they are trying for a direct swap deal with no money involved. This will be a great deal for the Blaugrana as they will get a player more suited for their team and who is a bit more experienced. However, it will not be a bad deal for Ajax either.
Dest was a fantastic player for the Dutch side and the manager, Erik Ten Hag, knows exactly how to use Dest. The player thrived in the Eredivisie, however, he could not find the rhythm of La Liga. He is just 21 years old and thus a change of scenario would be good for him. Although he is adamant that Barca is the club where he belongs, if he is given a chance to go back to his former club, he will probably take it. Any other club such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea are out of the question however, Ajax can tempt him back.
Should Barcelona sign Noussair Mazraoui?
