#2 Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus

One of the youngest superstars in European football, Matthijs de Ligt, is a hot prospect in the markets at the moment. Although he seems well settled into the Juventus backline, top teams such as Barca, Chelsea and Bayern are all scouting the player. He has been an integral part of the Old Lady’s defense in recent years and although it took him some time to get settled into the first team, he is now a regular and has a good partnership with Giorgio Chiellini. His contract is set to run for two more years which means that Juve is in no rush to sell him however, they are in desperate need of a new striker and they would sell the defender for the right price.

The main problem for the Italians is their attacking. They have scored only 34 goals in the league this season which is the second-lowest in the top half of the table. They are currently sitting in the fifth position, courtesy of their defense, however, if they do not bolster up their attack before next season, there is no way they can keep up with Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli. The team does not have too many high-profile players anymore but De Ligt is one of the players who can bring in some serious cash.

Juve has a 125 million euro release clause on him; however since Mino Raiola is De Ligt’s agent, he has managed to bring it down especially for Barca. This once again shows how powerful Laporta’s contacts are however, the price is still going to be close to 100 million euros and Barca will have to think very carefully before they make such a big investment.
