Chelsea and Barcelona have been involved with each other frequently in the past with players like Deco, Cesc Fabregas, and Pedro being the most notable ones however, there has been no player in history to move from the Blues to Barca. That all might change next season as the Catalans are seriously trying to bring in Andreas Christensen on a free transfer. The Danish centre-back is running out of a contract soon and he has made sure to make it very clear that he will not be joining any Premier League side out of respect for the Blues.

The player has been with the London side since he was 16 years old. He had a lot of ups and downs with the club however, he is certainly one of the best defenders in the world and his solid performance in the Euros and in the UEFA Champions League final last season. He tried to negotiate a contract with his current club for a long time however, things are not going according to plan and he is still without a proper offer from the club at the moment. This makes him an ideal target for the Catalans since they are already trying for a centre-back.

Barcelona desperately need a new centre-back

The Catalans have around five CBs at the moment however, only two of them are viable. Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet are too inconsistent and they are extremely error-prone. Samuel Umtiti is forever injured and even though he just signed a new contract with the club, he might be sold in the next transfer window. This leaves only Gerard Pique and Ronald Araujo as viable options. However, Pique is also getting quite old and he is no longer the player that he was a few seasons ago. Thus, bringing in a young yet extremely experienced centre-back on a free transfer will be one of the best moves for Barca right now.
