Barcelona are in serious debt at the moment so the fact that they are contemplating buying Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next season is almost unfathomable. The Catalans were left in a terrible state and essentially bankrupt by former Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The main problem with him was that he never looked into the root of the problems and thought that buying top players would solve everything. that is why he bought a lot of players, kept them on sky-high wages, and eventually drained out the entire club. Barca is not stable at all financially however, they do have a plan to secure Haaland.

The player who is considered one of the best strikers in the world at the moment is heavily tipped to leave his current club in the summer and Barca is one of the clubs that he could potentially join. The Norwegian has mentioned that he would like to join La Liga over the Premier League and if this is true, then Barca becomes the main team. This is because Real Madrid are trying for Kylian Mbappe next season and Atletico Madrid does not interest him. However, with a one billion euros debt, how can the Catalans afford him?

Well, it is actually quite simple. The Catalan kings are trying to sell one of their assets for 100 million euros and if they are successful in doing that, a major chunk of Haaland’s fee will be covered. Barca Studios, their media company, can be sold to another company however, not the entire studio. Barca has decided to sell 49 percent of Barca Studio’s stakes which is a lot of equity but they will also remain as the majority shareholder and thus would still be able to run the studio house according to their own liking. The next thing that they would need to do is to let go of a few players. If players such as Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann leave permanently, then the club will be able to afford the player and begin their new era.

Should Barca do everything possible to sign Haaland?
