Barcelona Transfer News: Leeds United is expected to compete with Italian powerhouses AC Milan for the services of Barcelona misfit Riqui Puig during the forthcoming summer transfer period
Barcelona Transfer News: It has been reported that Leeds United would compete with Italian heavyweights AC Milan in the hunt to sign out of favour Barcelona player Riqui Puig during the next summer transfer window, according to Fichajes.
At La Masia, the 22-year-old progressed through the youth system before making his first-team debut in 2018. Since then, he has made 51 appearances. He has scored one goal and assisted on another three others. Despite his early-season promise, Puig has struggled to find playing time this season. This season, he has played a total of 355 minutes in 12 matches across all competitions, which is a season-low.
It seems that new manager Xavi Hernandez is open to the prospect of trading the 22-year-old and that he is placing his faith in younger players to succeed him in the position. Selling Puig will assist him in generating revenue that can be put back into the team.
While he may be unwelcome at Camp Nou, the Spaniard has his own group of fans in other parts of the world. Leeds and Milan both offer him a way out of his current situation and help him get his career back on track. A skilled midfielder in his own right, Puig has the potential to grow into a key player in the future if given the proper training and mentoring.
With a track record of getting the most out of his young players, Marcelo Bielsa’s appointment as manager of Leeds United might prove to be a good choice. But Leeds United is suffering this season and, unless their performances improve, they might find themselves in the relegation zone.
With the club’s star player Kalvin Phillips drawing interest from other clubs, the team seems to be interested in bringing in a central midfielder this summer. Marcus Tavernier of Middlesbrough is another player who has caught their attention.
Barcelona Transfer News: What is in store in Riqui Puig’s future?
But AC Milan is a more glamorous alternative that also provides Puig with the potential to play in Europe next season, if he chooses to join them. Stefano Pioli is putting together a youth club that has a lot of potential. Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, and Sandro Tonali are just a few of the players who have already formed the backbone of a youthful and potentially dynamic squad.
One significant setback in the Rosoneeri’s rebuilding process is the impending departure of midfielder Franck Kessie at the end of the current season. They may have found a superb successor in Puig, who is still in the prime of his career and has many more years ahead of him.
According to the current situation, the Barcelona player’s full potential has yet to be realized. Whether it’s Leeds or Milan, one of the clubs has a chance to sign a player who is worth developing. It is still unclear which club it will be.
Should Barca sell or keep Riqui Puig?
