Barcelona has a problem. The two full-backs or wing-backs that they are currently using for most of their games are getting old and they are no longer in their prime. Dani Alves and Jordi Alba are undoubtedly two legends of the footballing world however, they are also 38 and 32 years old respectively. They are not getting any younger and that is very apparent in their games. While yes, they can still put in an above-average performance most nights, they are no longer top performers and cannot continue in the future. Youngsters can severely outpace them and that is why new wing-backs or full-backs are required.

Barca has been looking at a lot of players recently but the one player they are sure about bringing in is Chelsea‘s Cesar Azpilicueta. Not only is he one of the best full-backs in the Premier League but he is also the club’s captain which means that he has tremendous leadership qualities. The player has been linked with the club for almost two months now and although the Blues will try to keep their captain, former Chelsea and Barca player, Cesc Fabregas, has stated that the Spaniard will most likely go to the Catalan club.

Former Barcelona star confident about Azpilicueta signing

In an interview with reputed journalist and Twitch streamer, Gerard Romero, Fabregas said,

"‘Azpilicueta to Barca, they’re saying it’s almost done,’"

This would be a great buy for the club since he will be coming to their side on a free transfer and he is extremely experienced. Azpilicueta is a man who has been extremely underrated by the media however, his contribution to his side is irreplaceable. He is a very talented and humble player who gives it his all on the pitch and that is why he has won every trophy he could win with Chelsea. He would be a brilliant temporary fix until someone younger is found.
