Several sources have said that Barcelona will face heavy competition from Bundesliga powers Borussia Dortmund in the hunt to recruit Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui, according to reports.
The German site Sport1 reports that Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing Noussair Mazraoui on a free transfer during the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old right-back is also a target for Barcelona, and he is expected to depart Ajax as a free agent soon.
Noussair Mazraoui became a member of Ajax in July 2006, when he enrolled in the club’s renowned academy at the age of nine. After making significant strides since then, the Moroccan defender has established himself as an important player for both his club and his nation.
The 24-year-old has had a productive season in 2021/22, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. Mazraoui, on the other hand, seems to be on his way out of Ajax as a free agent during the summer transfer window, having lately said that he wants to start on a new adventure. Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have both taken notice of this trend in recent weeks.
Barcelona added a right-back to their squad this past winter when they re-signed Dani Alves. Given his age (he will be 40 next year), the experienced Brazilian international will only be a short-term option in the Blaugrana’s defensive lineup. And, with Sergino Dest’s future at Camp Nou in doubt, Barcelona will be forced to look for a new right-back in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona keen on securing Noussair Mazraoui
Accordingly, Marzaoui has surfaced as a realistic target for Barcelona, with recent rumours stating that the player would welcome the opportunity to join the Catalan giants. Barcelona, on the other hand, would have to stave off heavy competition from Borussia Dortmund if they are to get the 24-year-old right-back.
Thomas Meunier, the right-back for Borussia Dortmund, has been linked with a move to the Camp Nou, which is interesting. The Bundesliga giants may have to find a replacement if the La Liga heavyweights step up their chase of the Belgian international, making Mazraoui a possibility worth considering.
So, having reached an agreement to sign Niklas Sule, the Black and Yellows have now turned their focus to Mazraoui, with negotiations between the two parties proceeding smoothly. Barcelona is now behind in the pursuit of Mazraoui, according to reports. It will be intriguing to watch whether the Blaugrana can claw their way back into the race.
Will Barca succeed in their pursuit?
