According to reports, Alvaro Morata is desperate to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window after failing to negotiate a January move to Camp Nou.
According to a report by the Spanish daily SPORT, Barcelona now has the upper hand in the chase of Alvaro Morata. In the upcoming summer transfer window in which the Blaugrana have shown interest in signing him, the 29-year-old Spanish international is open to the possibility of completing a permanent move to Juventus if the Catalan giants do not sign him.
With over a decade of senior-level club football experience under his belt, Alvaro Morata has been a bit of a journeyman. The Spaniard broke into the Real Madrid first-team structure before joining the Italian champions Juventus in 2014. His time with the Bianconeri lasted two years until he returned to Real Madrid, but he failed to establish himself as a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu.
A transfer to Chelsea also failed to produce results for the 29-year-old, and he eventually joined Atletico Madrid in January of 2019. However, the Spanish international only had little success during his time at the Wanda Metropolitano before returning to Juventus on a two-year loan agreement in September 2020.
Morata has continued to be a source of controversy at Juventus, scoring just eight goals and providing six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions so far this year. Following the signing of Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window, the player’s value will have plummeted even more, despite his excellent showing thus far this month. Morata, on the other hand, is keen to sign a contract with Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
Barcelona had been interested in acquiring Morata during the January transfer window, and negotiations had progressed to a promising level at one time. It was ultimately decided that a deal would not be made. Former Arsenal striker Aubameyang was transferred to Barcelona on a free transfer.
However, Aubameyang will only be a short-term solution for Barcelona, with the likes of Luuk de Jong and Martin Braithwaite also expected to leave Camp Nou during the summer transfer period. With Morata apparently on their radar, the Blaugrana will have to join the market for a striker before the 2022/23 season.
Even if the 29-year-old Spanish international is interested in joining Barcelona, a summer transfer is unlikely to materialize because Erling Haaland is the club’s primary aim. Even though Morata is open to completing a permanent move to Juventus, the Serie A giants have requested that the amount of the acquisition clause be reduced to acquire him. In terms of the possibility of joining Barcelona, the ball is in the hands of the Blaugrana.
