Valencia CEO might have just given Barcelona a huge transfer boost
Barcelona has been obsessed with bringing in new left-backs and right-backs for years now. Their current options are quite good however, they are also quite old and age does affect their standard of play and their consistency in their performances. The two players, Jordi Alba and Dani Alves are definitely legends in the game however, Barca would thrive with younger players who can keep up with the ever-increasing speed of the game. Players such as Nelson Semedo and Junior Firpo were tried out by previous managers however, it was decided that neither of them had what it takes to play for the Catalan side.
Jose Gaya was the player that the Catalan board wanted to bring in from 2020 and they had a very good opportunity to bring him in as well. When the pandemic was at its peak, Valencia was almost bankrupt. The club was ready to sell all the players that they needed to in order to keep the club running however, the only player they were not ready to sell was their captain Gaya. The 26-year-old player is one of the most consistent and pragmatic left-backs in La Liga. He is dynamic as well and has the ability to play like Alba.
Barcelona eye Jose Gaya to replace Jordi Alba
His likeness to Alba was what initially attracted Barcelona to him however, the fact that he has played in La Liga throughout his career was also one of the reasons why he was selected. The problem, however, was his price and Valencia’s unwillingness to sell him. Now, however, the CEO has stated to Daily Mail that they are looking to sell some of their players when the time is right. He said,
"“I do not think that keeping players a little older is the right thing to do, you have to sell them at the right time and bring in the young ones.”Source Daily Mail"
This could be a subtle hint towards Gaya since the player is in his prime now and wants to take the next step in his career. Gaya knows that staying at Valencia won’t get him a lot of trophies and if he wants to be one of the best, he needs to play in an elite club. His contract with his current team is also expiring soon and thus the club might finally be willing to let him go.
Should Barca pursue Jose Gaya?
