One of the main reasons why Barcelona are in the financial mess that they find themselves in right now is the mismanagement done by the former board. The former Barca board was run by Josep Maria Bartomeu and although he did a good job in his initial years, he soon lost the same energy and became lackadaisical. He very soon started to just buy new players left and right without making sure that they would fit into the team and the system. He also brought in coaches who were not fit enough to run the club and the triple transfer of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho was what really killed the club.

Last year it was noted that the club was in a debt of over 1 billion euros. That amount is absolutely ludicrous and should have never been allowed to rise to that level. Buying the aforementioned three players for over 100 million euros each and then offering huge contracts to almost all their players was also a big reason for their economic downfall. Now it is a must for Barca to sell the players or at least offload them. They managed to send Griezmann and Coutinho out on loan and their respective clubs will most likely retain them however, there is a huge problem with Dembele.

Chelsea look to secure departing Barcelona star

The French player wants a huge salary and is not willing to listen to reason. He wants to stay at Barca but on his own demands and that is just not going to work out. Xavi Hernandez has stated that he wants to keep him at the club however, the club wants him gone. They tried to sell him in the winter transfer market and Chelsea even offered to buy him for 10 million along with some bonuses however, the forward rejected that move.

Now the Blues want him again for free but Barca will also try to keep him and make him agree to a new contract. Losing him for free would be a huge loss but then again, the club needs to move on and not think about deals made in the past.
