With Barcelona scoring goals once again, Xavi Hernandez has now shifted his focus to the defense which still requires a lot of work. Not only does he need new wing-backs to replace the aging Dani Alves and Jordi Alba but he also needs a new and experienced centre-back who will play alongside Ronald Araujo. Their current options in the club are not good enough and Gerrard Pique is their only reliable option who has experience however, he can no longer perform the way he used to a couple of years back. This means that Barca will need to get a new player but that might create some problems in the Erling Haaland deal.

Barcelona want to make De Ligt a priority signing

Matthijs de Ligt is one of the players whom Barca are seriously considering bringing in. The 22-year-old is considered as one of the brightest players in Juventus right now and Max Allegri wants to make him the focal point of his defense moving forward. So if he is such an important player for Juve, why would they even consider selling him? This is because Barca is willing to offer as much as 75 million euros for the player plus the player himself is in the last two years of his contract with no talks about an extension. This offer could entice Juve but it creates another issue for the Catalans.

It is no surprise that Barca still needs a new permanent striker. While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a good temporary solution, he will not provide more than three years to the club. They need someone young and for months Joan Laporta has been fixated on Erling Haaland. The Norweigan striker has been his number one target but buying him from Borussia Dortmund will be no easy task. Plus, if they spend almost 100 million on De Ligt, it would create financial problems for the Haaland transfer. Thus, they will probably have to make a choice but bringing in Haaland would make more sense.

Should Barcelona go all in to secure De Ligt?
