Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele have a complicated relationship. The French superstar was brought into the club as a direct replacement for Neymar Jr. Who left for Paris Saint-Germain. However, the youngster could not perform up to expectations and injuries did not make it any better for him. He is a talented player but the coaches could not get the most out of him and he does have a little attitude problem since he did not come to training on time a few times, and he is also motivated more by the financial gains. However, the new manager, Xavi Hernandez is eager to use him and thus Barca is trying their best to keep him at the club.

Dembele’s contract runs out in June 2022 and thus, he has already entered the last six months of his contract. He is now free to talk to other clubs however, he has not been linked with any other club as of now. It has been reported that Chelsea did try to buy him in the winter however, he refused to leave the club. With his contract coming to an end and Xavi showing his desire to keep the player, Barca is struggling to make a solid decision.

Barcelona have a new plan to renew Ousmane Dembele

Dembele has already rejected their former offers, saying that the wage is not enough. He also demands a big signing on bonus which is just not feasible for Barca. However, the Catalans have conjured up a new plan which could be more suitable for the player. Instead of a long-term contract that will tie him down with the club for five years, they are planning on offering him a short-term contract, not more than two years. This way, they can increase his wages a bit however, the signing on fees has to be dropped by the player. A shorter contract would also mean that the player can renegotiate his contract sooner and this could be the deal that finally secures the player for at least another season.
