Xavi happy with this out of favour Barcelona youngster’s performance
Barcelona is a club that is full of talented youngsters at the moment and although a lot of these players are looking like future world-class players, some are not doing that well. Players such as Ansu Fati, Pedri, Ronald Araujo and Gavi are considered as the future face of the club however, there is one player who was once on the same list but has now fallen off. We are of course talking about the sad tale of Riqui Puig. One of the most technically talented players has only made 13 appearances so far in the season and it has even been reported that he might be sold. Still, amongst all the reports, Xavi Hernandez continues to support him.
The 22-year-old was considered as one of the best products of La Masia yet he is at the age where he should be playing regularly but is rather only playing once in a blue moon. According to Football Espana via Sport, Xavi is impressed with the player but has not been able to play him regularly due to the huge competition in the midfield. This is true the Catalans have a very talented midfield and it is hard to drop any player but Puig will soon enter his prime and he cannot waste his years sitting on the bench of a great club.
Xavi wants Riqui Puig to stay in Barcelona
Hernandez expressed that he is happy with the way Puig trains and is impressed by the player’s tenacity and diligence however, that has not been translated into enough game time. The La Masia graduate has only started twice in the league this season and it does not seem like his game time will improve anytime soon. Puig has three options right now, leave the club entirely and move to a club where he will be played regularly, leave the club on a loan and come back to fulfill his Barca dreams, or keep working hard and earn his place at the top. The choice is his and it will be interesting to see which one he chooses.
