Ousmane Dembele open to staying at Barcelona after impressive displays

The Ousmane Dembele saga continues as new reports suggest that the player is open to staying back at Barcelona. The mercurial superstar, who never really found his footing at Barca, has now started to perform quite well under the new manager, Xavi Hernandez. He was poised to leave the club in January itself but he held out and said that he did not want to change clubs. That was a huge issue for the Catalans because now not only do they have to pay his wages for the next six months but they could also lose the player for free at the end of the season.

Barca fans have been given a new glimmer of hope after Cope journalist, Helena Condis Edo, reported that Dembele is ready to extend his contract with the Catalan side however, his agent has not started any new negotiations yet. She also said that the player mentioned that he is very happy at Barca and his first choice would be to stay under Xavi Hernandez. The player is shining properly for the first time and it seems as if the former Barca legend has finally found the key unlocking Dembele’s full potential. Xavi always mentioned that he loved the French player so it may be good for him to stay at a club where the manager really trusts him.

Having said that, there will be no deal made between the player and the club unless the player’s agent agrees to significantly lower their demands. Not only is Dembele asking for a high wage with no cuts, but he is also demanding a signing-on fee. This sort of expenditure is not possible for the Catalans and they have to maintain the La Liga salary cap as well. We will just have to wait and see how this one plays out however, as for now Dembele is still a Barca player and Xavi intends on using him thoroughly.
