Barcelona is not at the top level yet however, there is no doubt that taking the right direction and will work their way back to the top. With the much-needed change in management, the team has been renewed and there is a breath of fresh air around the club. A new president, a new captain and a new manager, the new Barca is looking to take the world by a storm and Xavi Hernandez is leading the ship. However, not everyone is happy with the way the club is being run and one person who is extremely disappointed with the new leadership is Ronald Koeman.

Koeman was selected by the previous president to lead the club through the dark times and Koeman should be commended for his bravery. However, once Joan Laporta became the president, the Dutch manager claims that there was an immediate lack of communication. Laporta did give Koeman quite a few chances however, in the early part of the season, after a few bad performances, he was replaced by Xavi. In an interview with AD, Koeman complained that he was never given the same resources as Xavi and that Laporta lied to him by saying that Xavi would not replace Koeman.

Ronald Koeman feels betrayed by Barcelona chief

He said,

"“I really wanted to succeed at Barcelona, but I realised that Laporta wanted to get rid of me because I was not appointed by him. You won’t see me at Camp Nou for a while, I can’t do that yet. With this president, I can’t pretend that nothing happened.”Source ESPN"

He went on to say that he worked with an injured team and that many players were not available during his second season. While this is true, one of the main attributes of a manager should be to handle adversities. That being said, Koeman was selected in a tough time and money was extremely tight. Maybe the club should have stuck around with the manager to explore his philosophy but Laporta obviously trusted Xavi more and the way the team is playing now, we can safely say that he made the right choice.
