Update: New contract offer by Barcelona secures them this transfer
While there has been a lot of speculation around Barcelona and Andreas Christensen, Fabrizio Romano, continues to provide good news to Barca fans. The world-class journalist had reported months ago that the Catalans were pursuing Christensen and that turned out to be true. Now he has said that the deal is very close to being done and a verbal agreement has almost been reached. Previously we knew that the Blaugrana were offering the Danish centre-back a big contract of four years however, that has been revised and he is getting an even bigger contract which has almost secured them the player.
According to a new update from Romano, the Catalans have increased the contract length from four years to five years. They have also updated his wages and that is something their competitors could not match. Bayern Munich was the main antagonist in this saga as they planned to hijack the player after losing Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund. It would have been extremely tempting to go to Bayern however, with the updated contract and bigger role, Christensen has chosen Barca. The club’s representative will contact the player this week and a verbal agreement is said to be on its way.
Barcelona near the signing of Andreas Christensen
Chelsea will be losing one of their top defenders however, not to a direct rival. The 25-year-old made sure to not join another Premier League side in order to show respect to the club that brought him up and that just gives Barca an added advantage. His exact wages are not known yet however, he will probably take a downgrade from his current salary of 80,000 pounds per week. Playing for Barca is a big honor for any player and the Danish defender has understood that this will be the turning point of his career. This will be his chance to cement his legacy as a world-class player and he cannot mess it up.
