Barcelona could get 40 million euros for this failed transfer
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, made a strong statement at the end of the previous year. He said that he is ready to spend money even though the club is not in a financially stable position. He also mentioned that he is going to back Xavi Hernandez and provide him with all the reinforcements that he needs. He then went on to back up his statement in January when he brought in three new attackers, two for free and one for almost 60 million euros. He wants to continue bringing in new players; however, for this he will need to sell players as well.
While the president does have a few players in his mind who could be sold, it will not be possible to sell everyone on that list. However, one player who is on the verge of an exit and has been on the transfer list for a while now will bring in a lot of money. Philippe Coutinho, the most expensive transfer of Barca’s history, was a complete flop and the club lost out a lot of money on him. Not only was he unable to perform for the club, his multiple injuries meant that his overall value as a player was also plummeting. The Catalans were not sure whether they could have sold the player however, after he got loaned to Aston Villa, a new window of opportunity opened up.
Barcelona could get 40 million euros for Philippe Coutinho
The player has been performing quite well in England and working under his former teammate Steven Gerrard has really helped him. He seems to be enjoying football again and Villa seems keen to keep him permanently. According to reports from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Gerrard is very keen on keeping him and has even told the club about his wishes. Should the Claret and Blues decide to keep him, it would cost them 40 million euros which would help Barca immensely in their pursuit of Erling Haaland. Although nothing has been made final yet, there is a very big chance that Barca can finalize the sale of this player soon.
