When Xavi Hernandez took over Barcelona, the club was sitting in the mid-table region, on the verge of falling down to the lower half of the table. It was one of the worst starts to a season the Catalans had ever experienced and the former manager could not turn things around quickly. Ronald Koeman was sacked soon after a series of underwhelming results and former club legend, Xavi, took over the role of the manager. Having trained under Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard quickly turned around the team’s tactics into a more possession-based attacking one and although it was not working at first, now the team has begun to grasp the concept.

Xavi Hernandez believes Barcelona winning La Liga isn’t impossible

Xavi’s first few matches were shaky and the team did not look very tight. The game plan was to keep the ball, play short passes and build up from the back but the team itself was not ready for such a drastic change. Plus, the finishing was not there so even if the Catalans did amazing in the build-up phase, in the finishing part there was always a blunder. Then Xavi managed to get three new players in the winter and completely change the look of the attack. The team is unbeaten in their last nine games and the manager is now hoping for the La Liga as well. He said,

"“Mathematics says that we can win the league, so why not? The others are failing but not Real Madrid. They have time on their side. It is very difficult, but not impossible.”Source Times of India"

He went on to say that the team had three goals when he took over the team, winning the Europa League, winning the La Liga and getting back into the UEFA Champions League. Now that they have already secured a Champions League spot, their two other goals, winning the league and the Europa League have become their main targets.
