One of the main reasons why Josep Bartomeu’s Barcelona did not sink immediately was due to Lionel Messi. Even though the team was in tatters and there was mismanagement all around the club, their greatest player ever single-handedly pulled them to the top of the La Liga and even got 30 goals in the league in his last season with Barca. The player was simply irreplaceable for the Catalans and he will forever be considered as one of the gods of the game. Thus, when it was revealed that the club was being forced to let go of the player, not only were the fans distraught but the player himself was extremely disappointed.

Messi loved Barca and he could not imagine himself playing for another club however, the new president, Joan Laporta, said that due to the new wage rules implemented by the Spanish League, they could not re-sign the player. The Argentine moved to Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of the season however, the star-studded team could not make it past the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. Things have not been much better in the Ligue either as Messi is only sitting with two goals, although he does have 10 assists.

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi might move back to the Catalan side next season

According to reputed journalist and Barca enthusiast, Gerard Moreno, the 34-year-old is not enjoying his time in Paris and even though he gets to play with one of his best friends, Neymar Jr, it seems like he wants a move back to the Blaugrana. Moreno reported on his twitch channel that Messi’s father had contacted the club recently in order to bring him back to the Catalan side. There is no other evidence supporting the argument as of now however, the player coming back to Barca is highly unlikely.

The player has a contract with PSG till 2023 which means that Barca will have to pay a transfer fee. On top of that, they will have to redesign their current wage structure. On top of that, they already have a few players lined up for the summer transfer window and thus it seems unlikely that they would go all the way just to bring back Messi.
