El Clasico: Three talking points as Barcelona destroys Real Madrid
3. One for the history books
Barcelona put on a show last night and it was an absolute goal-fest. Sure, the Catalans destroyed the Madrid side 4-0 but it could have very easily been much more. Had it not been for a few misses and a few great saves by Thibaut Courtois Madrid would have a real night to forget. Still, it was a very dominant display shown by the Blaugrana, one for the history books for sure and one that the Madristas must shake off soon. The gap between Barca and Real has now been reduced to 12 points and it could become nine points since Xavi’s men have a game in hand.
While the title may be too much of a stretch, Xavi has mentioned that the team will keep fighting for the La Liga until it is mathematically impossible to attain. The team is finally playing according to the manager’s vision and it looks like great things are waiting for the team ahead. If the club can maintain its current form, then the Europa League will be a guaranteed victory and Champions League football will be graced with Barca’s presence again.
2. The gift that keeps on giving
When Xavi decided that the attack needed some reinforcements, his first choice was Ferran Torres. Not only is the player extremely versatile but he is also quite experienced and his performance in both Manchester City and the Spanish national team caught Xavi’s attention. He was brought in for almost 60 million euros and he has done decently so far however, the transfer of the year has to go to Aubameyang. Xavi picked up the player for free from Arsenal and he has been on a rampage ever since. The Gabonese striker has managed to score nine goals for the Catalans so far, including seven in the league.
He was once again on target against Madrid and he scored twice to take his total tally against Los Blancos to seven goals. He is certainly Madrid’s arch-rival and his super form meant that the league leaders really stood no chance. Aubameyang has been a super transfer and he is the figure in front of the goal that Barca was missing.
